Recently I had a visit from two members of the Peace Corps staff to my site. There was one person visiting from Peace Corps in Washington DC and they wanted her to have an opportunity to visit and see a volunteer at their site. My site was one of the closer ones to Jakarta, where they were staying.
Her, along with my Regional Manager (my first contact point with PC) came to my site to see my school, house, and observe a class I taught.
I had a class with 7A, that’s one of the 7th grade classes. At my school they label classes by the grade and a letter from the alphabet. So 7A is the first class in 7th grade (not necessarily the best as they don’t rank classes).
When they came, I was also being observed by the staff from Indonesia because every once in a while they come to our sites to watch us teach and give feedback. The class was on Adverbs of Frequency (ie Always, Often, etc.) and it went very well.
The students were very excited to meet some other people from Peace Corps. The staff member from Washington DC also brought some goodies for the kids from America.
Then we had lunch at a traditional Sundanese restaurant to try some local foods. After we toured my school a bit and went to meet my host family. They were able to see where I live and meet my host family.
This was a really great experience and I’m so glad they were able to come to my site.
Below are some photos from the day. She brought pop rocks for the kids to try!
