Most Challenging Adjustment

There is one unexpected aspect of life and work here that has turned out to be the most challenging. This is the constant changes to schedules, plans that either cancel last minute or pop up last minute, and the lack of information about scheduled activities until the last moment.

I was recently talking to someone who used to work for Peace Corps and they told me that former Peace Corps volunteers made great job candidates because of there ability to change plans on a dime and the comfort with unknow or unsure schedules. I hope that is true, and that this will prepare me for later because it is very difficult to deal with in the present.

For example, my school schedule was recently changed because we got four new teachers half way though the semester, meaning we have to chnage the entire schedule. This happened right before Ramadan, where we don't have any classes. The schedule was then put off and up until now, I still do not have a definitive schedule with only about a month left of the school year. Don't get me wrong, I still go to classes but now its kind of a surprise. Like suddenly one of my co-teachers will pop up and say "time for class" and I get a super fun surprise of not knowing which grade level or the topic of the lesson I'm walking into.

Although this can be difficult, it is not entirely unexpected. I just didn't necessarily expect the level of uncertainty that would happen. It has definitely improved my ability to create actitvites on the fly for class. I am hopeful to get my schedule today actually.

This is just one of the many parts of Peace Corps service that keeps me on my toes. I will say there is never a day that I don't feel like I've lived a full day. A.K.A. I'm always tired after a day teaching.

No day is the same- many decisions a day makes for a tired teacher. You are rocking this.
