During this past week, my volunteer group had a "field trip" to the Pasar, which is the name for traditional markets in Indonesia. We went to the Pasar to practice bargaining and price negotiations. Honestly, this was pretty hard because most locals will upsell you if they see that you are foreign or even if they see that you are not from this region of Indonesia. It was a cool market to see and I ended up buying some dragon fruit and star fruit. I have gotten to eat and try a lot of new and delicious fruits here in Indonesia. It's interesting because I tried dragon fruit back in the US and I felt like it had no flavor. However, the ones here are amazing and so flavorful. The market had all sorts of booths from fruit to clothes and hats, as well as other food items.
We rode in an Angkot - a traditional bus- to get there. We were also learning how to use an Angkot, as it is could be used frequently in our permanent sites.
To flag down an Angkot, you wave your left hand out, then you get onto the Angkot and tell them your destination. Once you are near your destination, you must tell the driver and then you pay. There are certain Angkot's that only go certain directions so depending on where you want to go, you have to be careful to get on the correct one.
That's all for now
Sampai jumpa.
