Day to Day Life

Honestly, life as a PCV is pretty repetative. I haven't posted a lot of blogs because during the school semester I don't really do a lot of interesting or new things. I guess I just don't think anyone would be very interested in the day to day activities of a PCV. But i figured I'd write about what a typical day looks like.

So I am in a more unusual spot than most other PCVs as my school and house are actually connected by the school gate. As such, my commute to school takes less than 1 minute. My school runs from 7 a.m. to about 3 p.m. Monday-Friday. Some schools in Indonesia have school on Saturday but mine does not as we are considered "full time" during Mon-Fri. I typically wake up between 6:15-6:30 a.m. because I do not have to do much before leaving in the morning. I pretty much just get dressed and grab my things for school. My host parents run the canteen at my school so while I'm going from my house to my office in the school, I'll grab something from them for breakfast. I am not a big breakfast person so usually it is fried tempe or bread with either a coffee cup or a orange juice cup.

Once I get to my office, I'll put my stuff down. Some days I have class first period so I'll just drop my stuff off and go to class. If I don't have class first period, I'll do some lesson planning and any other miscellaneous tasks I have. Otherwise, throughout the day whenever I don't have classes I'll do lesson planning and prep. On Wednesdays I have English Club whihc is one of the extracuricular activities the students can choose to do. I often use the English Club to test whether the students like activities and if they do I'll use them in classes as well. The students in English Club are always super interested and invested in learning english and it's great to see them being excited about something.

This is 22 teaching hours each week, not including lesson planning and prep hours.
